How do I write about myself?
I've dreamed of being an artist for as long as I can remember but I've ignored this passion for years. Until recently...
I was born in Kingston, Jamaica and studied Fine Arts at Angelo State University, San Angelo, Texas. After graduating, I returned to Jamaica and did everything else but paint. And now, years later I've rediscovered my love of art and the bliss of losing myself in my paintings.
In my work, I try to bring everyday moments to life with vibrant, unapologetic use of color and quick brushstrokes with occasional palette knife for emphasis. I paint with acrylics on canvas, rarely mixing the colors so that they are pure intensity on the canvas. My style is a layered scheme of panels and dots, unstructured but creating the shimmering impression. Each brushstroke is an optimistic leap of faith that it goes where it belongs. And then I add the unpredictability of the palette knife.
My love of nature channels into the preferred themes of landscapes and seascapes from my beautiful Jamaica and from my travels abroad. My journeys to Europe fueled my study of Monet, Seurat and Van Gogh in greater detail. These great masters are my guiding inspiration for composition, texture and style.
My paintings bring me such joy and peace, and every one is created with love. I hope you enjoy my artwork as much as I enjoy painting them.
